RoundFlash Mobile Softbox

And I have a new toy to write about. The RoundFlash Mobile Softbox 45 cm  is the first real solution I have found for converting your system flash into a ring flash. I have tried a few different variations over the years but was never happy with the results. After we all had a play with Toms one way back at the Palm Valley shoot, 10 of us put our money together and bought in bulk….

Barbie beatdown …

A busy week of bloging this week. Lots and lots going on, Monday night as usual I was out shooting with another photographer. This time Christine “Just in time” Lutz was out and about with me and Model Barbie Beatdown. The idea behind this shoot was to get out of the studio and shoot with our RoundFlash adapters.

Karlsruhe 1932 … Part 2

This may be the last batch of scans for a while, as the rest of the glass negatives are either highly over or under exposed. The standard software that comes with my scanner isn’t the best. It looks like i will probably have to invest in Silverfast or some thing similar.

Karlsruhe 1932 … Part 1

Recently we were at “my Wife’s, Uncle’s, Partner’s birthday”. During dinner she remarked “Scott I have something for you”…. My ears picked up and was curious as to what she had. It turns out she was cleaning out her cupboards and found a box of 100 old glass negatives of Karlsruhe (the city in Germany where we live). The photos were taken by her long dead husbands farther. i.e my Wife’s, Uncle’s, Partner’s, ex- Farther in-law.

Tank Girl…..

This weeks project shoot was with Apocalipstick…  Based around the legendary comic character Tank Girl, she drives a tank which is also her home. She undertakes a series of missions for a nebulous organisation before making a serious mistake and being declared an outlaw for her sexual inclinations and her substance abuse. The comic centres on her misadventures with her boyfriend, Booga, a mutant kangaroo. The comic’s style was heavily influenced by punk visual art, and strips were frequently deeply disorganised, anarchic, absurdist, and psychedelic. The strip features various elements with origins in surrealist techniques, fanzines, collage,cut-up technique, stream of consciousness, and meta-fiction, with very little regard or interest for conventional plot or committed narrative.

Malysal

First of I have to thanks Malysal for jumping in last minute and modelling as my original couldn’t make it. My co-photographer this week was Dennis , it was cool to shoot with a fellow Alpha user. The fact that our lens collection complement each other and we could use triggers with out adapters added to the fun.

Día de Muertos

Day of the Dead (Spanish: Día de Muertos) is a Mexican holiday celebrated throughout Mexico and around the world in other cultures. The holiday focuses on gatherings of family and friends to pray for and remember friends and family members who have died. It is particularly celebrated in Mexico, where it is a national holiday, and all banks are closed. The celebration takes place on November 1 and 2, in connection with the Catholic holidays of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day. Traditions connected with the holiday include building private altars honouring the deceased using sugar skulls, marigolds, and the favourite foods and beverages of the departed and visiting graves with these as gifts. They also leave possessions of the deceased.

Achim D

 Chiaroscuro (Italian for “light/dark”)

Caravaggio is one of my favorite painters,  so I knew I wanted the subject to glow against a kind of shroud of inky blackness. Hair, eyes, little pieces of textured clothing–these were the things I wanted to highlight. They needed to come out of black nothingness.

But funny enough my fave photo from the evening was not one I was planning.

Stefanie

This week my plan was to only work with a large Octo-Box. But as things always work out I ended up getting carried away but it was a lot of fun. Stefanie modelled and  Andreas joined me as part of my 2013 project.
