A few weeks ago I saw several photos of a model simply warped in material an light with only one key light. The simplicity of it really appealed to my so I decided to do something similar. Alica and I had planed to shoot together last year but due to complications it unfortunately never happened, so I took this opportunity to catch up.
I have been having a lot of fun with my 2013 project, unfortunately I’m going away for the next few weeks so I wont have the chance to shoot in the studio. But this week I was shooting with Rockabella Kat as model and Snow White as guest photographer.
Kat did a fantastic job modelling for the first time she quickly adapted to the new situation and put in a lot of effort.
Servus und Grüß Gott… This weeks Monday night studio shoot based around the Dirndl. A dirndl [ˈdɪʁndl̩] is a type of traditional dress worn in Germany, especially Bavaria Liechtenstein, Austria, and South Tyrol. To keep things authentic dirndl designer Dianna Jones modelled her own outfits, and Austrian photographer Christian joined me for the shoot.
Helmut Newton
Helmut Newton (Helmut Neustädter) was born into a Jewish family in October 1920, Berlin. This German-Australian photographer is best known for long prolific photography career, his erotically charged black-and-white photos were a mainstay of many fashion magazines for decades.
I have been interested in Newtons work since I saw the exhibit “Big Nudes” in Hamburg about 15 years ago. About 10 years ago I discovers a small publication of his advertising work for German ceramics manufacturer Villeroy & Boch, which rekindled my interest in his work.

Intro
Unfortunately I only got to spend 1 day at photograph this year but what a day…. I had several stands on my visit list and managed to get to them all and pick up a few cool toys for the studio at the same time.
Sony and Hasselbald
The big news this year would have to be the Hasselbald Luna. The prototypes that we got to play with are based on the Sony NEX 7, but with custom hand made body. It sits very nicely in the hand (even with my big sausage fingers). It will be custom hand made to order in a variety of finished but at approximately 5000€ its not in my price category.

I was in Munich all last week and meet up with some great people from the “Flickr Munich Photo Walk” group (but more about that another day). I got back late Friday night just in time for the “Last Friday of the month shoot” at the lightGIANTS studio.
As if history was repeating itself one week latter I had another multicultural wedding, and again is was the sister of a wedding I had photographed last year. This time it was a German Turkish wedding. As a small surprise a Turkish band met the couple on their way to the reception, and every body started to dance.
I love photographing multi cultural weddings, the mixing of 2 world in the festivities of a wedding. Melanie from Germany and Arnaud from France, their countries are only separated by a river. In fact their villages are only 15 minutes drive apart, but it took a chance meeting Spain to bring them together.
I photographed Melanie’s brothers wedding last year so when she asked me shoot hers as well i took it as a compliment.
