Sony A99 Handbook

After reading the A99 Handbook a few times I  was very happy to see Eye-Fi card support for slot 1 🙂 me happy . I was I bit bummed that the camera didn’t have any Wi-Fi …..

A few other things that I noticed

  • Recording location information using
    the GPS feature (SLT-A99V only)
  • There is a new Wireless remote….. the RMT-DSLR1 will work but if you want o record video using the wireless remote you need a RMT-DSLR2 (sold separately)
  • RAW images shot with the camera have a resolution of 14 bits per 1 pixel. However,
this is limited to 12 bits in the following situations:
    – Long Exposure NR
    – BULB shooting
    – Continuous shooting (including multiple shooting, such as continuous shooting in
    Superior Auto mode)
  • “Remote Camera Control software” YEAAA Tether shooting is defiantly included. I want to test this with the EYE FI card in the studio

The next interesting thing I noted setting the method for recording on a
memory card

  • Standard Records images only on the memory card inserted in the slot selected with [Select Recording Media]
  • Simult. Rec (Still) Records still images on both of the memory cards inserted in the 2 slots, regardless of the [Select Recording Media]
setting, and records movies on the memory card inserted in
the slot selected with [Select Recording Media]. Still images
using the same file number will be recorded in the folders
that have the same folder number on both memory cards.
  • Simult. Rec (Movie) Records movies on both of the memory cards inserted in the2 slots, regardless of the [Select Recording Media] setting, and records still images on the memory card inserted in the
slot selected with [Select Recording Media]. MP4 movies using the same file number will be recorded in the folders that have the same folder number on both memory cards.
  • Sim. Rec (Still/Movie) Records still images/movies on both of the memory cards.
  • Sort(JPEG/RAW) Records JPEG data on the memory card inserted in the slot selected with [Select Recording Media], and records RAW
data on the other memory card.
  • Sort(Still/Movie) Records still images on the memory card inserted in the slot selected with [Select Recording Media], and records movies
    on the other memory card.

so with 2 cards i can make an auto back up when shooting simultaneously to both cards … or record different formats to different cards ….. very cool

    dear scott,

i just purchased the a99 for studio photography. i work with a remote trigger for the flashlights. today i recognized that in the manual position the evf stays very dark and at the most settings e.g 125/5,6 iso 100 the screen stays even black. i cannot imagine that sony develops a new new flagship which is not possibe to use in studio conditions. is there any workaround or did i just miss a specific setting?
i am looking forward to hear from you.

    kind regards, ralf

Hi. I have been told by others that it is a system setting. The camera is using intelligent preview (showing you what the image will look like with your settings). It doesn’t know that s studio flash is attached. For studio and strobes you can change the EVF to ‘Setting Effect Off’, so you get a similar view as an OVF.

      Hope that helps
